Retirement . . . What's Next?
You saved. You planned. You counted down the days. And then retirement arrived and somewhere between the freedom and the open calendar you found yourself asking a question you never expected:
“Now what?”
You are not alone. Most people plan meticulously for the financial side of retirement, but give very little thought to the emotional, social and identity shifts that follow.
The structure is gone. The title is gone. The daily purpose that quietly defined you for decades is gone. And the silence can be deafening.
After the initial traveling (top on the list for many people) is done and about three to six months out it hits you – “What is my purpose for getting up each day?”
We humans thrive best when we have a purpose in life and in retirement that will look totally different than where you’ve spent your career!
Many people I know who have retired from their corporate job or sold their business still work part-time. Some start a new business, something they have always dreamed of doing. Others begin new hobbies and find local groups to meet up with – could be a book club, knitting group or other types of hobbies. One of my long-time friends became a master wood carver, carving beautiful shore birds, and much more. He won many competitions to the delight of his friends and family.
I see that many also volunteer in their community, become mentors for youth programs and find an organization that fits their new found purpose.
What will you do when retirement comes?
This is one of the most underestimated transitions individuals can face - and one of the most transformational when navigated with the right support.
In my Retirement Coaching Program together we will:
Rediscover who you are beyond your career and former roles
Uncover what truly brings you joy, meaning and fulfillment
Create a vibrant vision for this next season of your life
Build a rhythm and purpose that energizes rather than empties you
Step into retirement as the beginning of your greatest chapter yet
You planned for the money. Now let’s plan the life.
